JANE MATWIJECKY
I am a Christian artist who participates as an associate at the Artist's
Showplace in
Dallas Texas. I have been the longest standing associate in the gallery and
continually rise to the challenge of presenting new work every three months. The
gallery is very unique as it is a studio gallery and offers exciting workshops
every month with very prestigious artists from all over the country. It has
given me the opportunity to develop my skills for which I am very grateful. I
participate and place in many local and national juried shows.
My art out flows from my strong believe in God and His son Jesus. The purpose of
my art is to bring glory to God using the Bible as inspiration and water based
medium as the communication tool. Just as God is the Creator of the Universe and
all things in it, He created me in His image and built into me an artistic sense
which I bring to every event in my daily life from the cooking, gardening and to
the clothing choices. I believe God called and gifted me to bring Him glory
through the artistic process. This calling is first seen in Exodus 31. God gave
Moses the plans for the first tabernacle but not the talent or the gifting. He
reserved that for Bezalel and Oholiab. He specifically said in Exodus 31:3—-"I
have filled him with the Spirit Of God in wisdom, in understanding, in
knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsman ship—"God empowered them with all the
ideas for the architecture, the art and the furniture. The overall design was to
be an earthly replica of God's heavenly house. What an assignment! And they only
succeeded because God called them out from the multitudes and gifted them for
that purpose. And since God is the same God then as He is today I can assume His
method is the same and therefore I have embraced my calling as an artist and
diligently try to bring glory and honor to Him as often as I can through my
work. I have had many opportunities to use my work as a witnessing tool to
explain who God is and how he works in our personal lives. Most of my work has a
biblical theme and always gets reproduced into greeting cards which are sold
throughout the USA. We artists have a tremendous responsibility and opportunity
to communicate goodness, truth, and beauty. Gifting and passion are not enough.
God demands that we have a submissive, broken and contrite heart and a strong
work ethic. God does His part with the call and gifting but expects us to do
ours. When we are constantly abiding in His word, His ideas flow out of us and
are transformed into colors and symbols that tell of His great love for us.
